I am delighted to have been invited to this podcast as an interview partner. It was a wonderful experience. Thank you, Kurt, for listening so attentively and for the stimulating conversation!
Podcast Description: “Julia Baier is a photographer in Berlin. As I listen to her talk about the how and why of her profession, I notice that Julia talks about her connections to other people all the time. And sometimes about her separations, too. Our conversation changes direction, and together we think about what it would take to create more closeness and connection. Especially when the things that connect us seem to be lost amid all the things that differentiate us.
Julia talks about her fragile sides, her doubts and vulnerabilities just as confidently as she talks about her joys and successes in life. I find this very impressive, because it seems to be precisely this courage to be open about herself that makes it easier for Julia (and all of us) to connect with our fellow human beings. In a sense, it is a counterpoint to the reinforcement (or even construction) of positive self-attributions, as we can observe, for example, in social media posts.
Basically, our conversation is a plea for more authenticity, more courage in dealing with ourselves and others – in both professional and private relationships.”
